Democracy Cafes 2014 launching in Thessaloniki on April 4

Democracy Cafes are public debates on democracy. Participants might be interested in graphic design, but the event aims to be a gathering for anyone interested in promoting human rights and the democratic discourse.

These events have been held in many countries around the world, in and outside Europe. Many of these happenings have been organised by local volunteers, in fact Democracy CafĂ©s are meant to be an open platform.

For 2014, we are starting our tour with Thessaloniki, Greece, on April 4. We plan to set up 7 more CafĂ©s, hoping that others might join us by organising an event in their own city.

Being our launch event, we decided to make it rather special. First of all we will hold the debate at the French Institute of Thessaloniki, on Friday April 4. You can find all the relevant information here.

After the debate, we will hold a three days workshop with Hervé Matine and Sergio Olivotti. The workshop is 100% free and will start on Friday April 4 and finish on April 6. You can read more about it here, and you can also log in your poster for tomorrow account and register to be eligible to participate.

To top it all, the 100 posters from “A Home for Everyone” exhibition will be on display from April 4 to April 13. Find timing and location at this link.

The Thessaloniki Café has been organised together with the Council of Europe and Toolkit Startup, the first meeting for young graphic designers in Greece, which will take place at the same time.

Skopje Democracy Cafe, now open!

After coming back from Sarajevo Film Festival, our very own Hervé noticed that our latest program, the Democracy Cafe, held there for the first time, provided a wonderful platform for networking and exchanging new ideas around human rights issues campaigning.

Skopje Democracy Cafe
The Skopje design week, held from 4 to 10 September 2012, seemed the ideal place to give another try to this formula.
Prepare for an afternoon of flaming debate and refreshing ideas at Kurshumli An, Museum of Macedonia on September 5th at 18.00
The debate will be moderated by Laze Tripkov and the participants will include Hervé and designer Ayse Karamustafa.

Freedom of Expression exhibition
As usual, we're not satisfied with ourselves unless we do something really exceptional, so we decided to use Skopje design week as an occasion to go back in time and show our best posters from the 2009 edition, "Freedom of Expression". The exhibition of the 100 best posters will be available for the whole duration of the event at Kurshumli An, Museum of Macedonia.

Draw me Democracy!
Last but not least, the design week audience seemed to be the perfect target for another session of our "Draw me Democracy!" workshops. So we decided to send there Ayse Karamustafa, jury member for the 2010 edition of Poster for Tomorrow, as she gracefully agreed to our request of holding there a workshop from 6 to 9 September.
So don't waste any more time: in case you happen to be there apply immediately to be part of the workshop! As always, it will be held free of charge.

poster for tomorrow loves Sarajevo Film Festival

The 18th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival will take place on 6-14 July 2012. This important festival program is visited by more than 100.000 people each year. In partnership with the Council of Europe, poster for tomorrow will host workshops and talks aimed to kids, young adults and adults participating to the Festival.

We will involve kids in a workshop session in collaboration with local designers and NGOs. Our aim is to stimulate their awareness about their own rights.

For boys and girls, we'll organize a debate about Gender Equality in everyday life. The discussion will be aimed to find out ways in which we can show our mutual respect, and we will record the result of the conversation in a co-created artwork.

Finally, for grown-ups, we're going to have 2 workshop sessions to help anyone who wants to take part in our "Gender Equality Now!" competition. Local graphic designers, poets, writers, students will brainstorm together, debate and exchange ideas to find out how express their point of view on this major issue.

So, see you in Sarajevo! To all of you who won't be able to be at the Festival, we suggest you to make the most of the extra 5 days and send in your artwork by 15 July at the latest.
