Here is the refugee, all her “worldly” possessions wrapped in a humble cloth balanced on her head. The weight of the world is literally upon her. Weighed down, and with no clear direction laid out before her, where in the world will she go? How will she find her place again? I chose traditional drawing style to convey the human misery of forced migration. The face is a self-portrait. My father fled from murder and persecution and through him I know what it means to be flee and to seek refuge.

In last year's brief we talked about "a world where boundaries are becoming less and less meaningful. Now more than ever, we are one people. No matter where we live, we are all equally powerless in the face of war or environmental disaster."
