My design brings to light the issue of multination corporations (specifically Nike) exploiting child labour in their manufacturing of apparel, footwear, accessories and other products. What image will it give you as a consumer when you buy such products from brands that employ child labour? The child wearing stripes represents the uniform child labourers who are completely undisclosed to the consumers of Nike. The repetition of the Nike logo depicts the mass-production and social/ economic ideology that encourages the acquisition of goods in mass amounts a.k.a consumerism. Children lose their childhood and education to working in sweatshops and become slaves to consumerism. Instead of painting in art class, they’re trapped painting the Nike “swoosh” on the runners we own.
