My name is Seongwon Jo and I am a student of the Graduate School of Hongik University.
My major is Visual Design in the School of Meta Design. My field of interest is Korean Communication Design.
The topics of my study so far is the studies on the forms, colors, and philosophy within Korean culture. The current topic of my research is the changes in terms of the intangible and phenomenal ideologies after the liberation of Korea from Japan since August 15, 1945. The reason I chose this topic is to identify the unique Korean identity within the East Asian culture sphere which includes Korea, China, and Japan, as Korean identity has mostly been destroyed due to the influence of Japanese culture during the occupation by the Japanese imperialists and that of American culture as a result of Korean War. Through my study efforts, I would like to discover the unique Korean identity and have the beauty and identity of Korean culture rediscovered.
Currently I am engaged in a variety of design activities, and in those efforts, I am utilizing the know ledges I have obtained from my studies on Korean culture. For this reason, one can observe a fair degree of Korean elements in my designs.
