A golden bone sits in the center of a white plate with gold leaf-rimmed edges, alongside a plain silver cutlery. What the table offers is an object belonging to an animal, not a human. The gold does not glorify the bone; it clothes humiliation in the guise of a gift, masking degradation with the language of honor. While the bone is already humiliating, adorning it to appear valuable transforms it into a false gesture mimicking genuine honor/reward. It's not simply "I give you a bone," but rather "I offer this bone to you as if it were gold," a hypocrisy. The golden bone is a false reward given by those in power to those they subjugate. This is the logic of the powerful who present obedience as a reward: honor, once bestowed from above, ceases to be honor and becomes a polished collar. The plain silver of the cutlery, untainted by gold, marks the difference between the vessel of the powerful and the tools of the common people. Because only a "gift" is gilded, because only a lie needs embellishment. Therefore, the fact that bone is gold does not make it valuable; it only adorns humiliation. Honor should never be something to be served, bestowed, or accepted at another's table.
