Dear Members of the Jury,
In this poster, I approach human dignity through the experience of a person whose voice and freedom are under pressure, yet whose humanity has not been erased.
The central figure is not intended as a collection of separate symbols, but as a single visual representation of a human condition. The covered mouth suggests the suppression of voice, while the visible eye indicates that awareness and the ability to see remain. The hand placed before the face creates a direct connection between silence and the heart: even when a person is prevented from speaking, their capacity to feel and to remain human cannot simply be taken away.
Within the dark body, a white doorway opens toward a child holding a red balloon. This is the central visual counterpoint of the poster. It introduces the possibility of a future beyond the limitations surrounding the figure: a future in which innocence, freedom, and human possibility remain present.
The surrounding elements—chains, the ladder, the bird, and the growing plant—are not separate messages, but parts of the same visual tension between restriction and the possibility of overcoming it. Together, they create a movement from silence and confinement toward awareness, hope, and freedom.
The limited palette of black, white, and red reinforces this central conflict. Black carries the weight of oppression and silence; white creates space for possibility; and red connects pain, life, emotion, and resistance within the same visual language.
For me, human dignity is not dependent on the absence of suffering or limitation. It exists in the fact that a human being can still see, feel, hope, and retain the possibility of reclaiming their voice.
For me, human dignity is not dependent on the absence of suffering or limitation. A person may be deprived of the ability to speak, of freedom, or of choice; but as long as they can still see, feel, and hope, their humanity and dignity have not been erased.
