Long before a person is understood, they are often classified.
Race, gender, nationality, language, occupation, and social status become the frameworks through which individuals are seen. While classification helps societies function, it can also reduce complex human lives to simplified identities. Labels often shape expectations, determine opportunities, and influence how people are perceived long before their individuality is recognized.
The barcode in this work symbolizes systems that seek to categorize, measure, and define human beings. In many environments, people are evaluated through economic value, productivity, social status, or demographic identity before they are acknowledged as individuals. Migrant workers, marginalized communities, and those facing discrimination often experience this reality most visibly.
Yet no barcode can contain a life.
Behind every label exists a person whose experiences, emotions, memories, and aspirations extend beyond any system designed to classify them. Human beings cannot be fully understood through categories, nor can their worth be reduced to a number, a status, or a code.
This work challenges the assumption that human value can be standardized, quantified, or assigned by external systems. It invites viewers to look beyond the labels that divide, rank, and define us, and to recognize the inherent dignity that exists within every individual.
Human dignity begins where classification ends.

We are pleased to announce the topic for the next edition of our poster contest: Dignity.
It can mean something different to everyone. But we believe that dignity is an inherent human right that transcends language and location. It is the pulse of our shared humanity. And we would like to invite you to defend it with us.
