The poster emphasizes the importance of protecting women's lives. The poster uses one of the most important human characteristics in women, menstruation, as a symbol of the natural and basic human life cycle. Menstruation, unique to women, signifies the production of fertility, and the killing of women is a process of interrupting the natural chain of human formation. The sanitary pads in the poster symbolize this process, but sanitary pads have become a form of oppression and injustice that women face, especially in conflict areas, where women lack the basic necessities of life such as personal hygiene and struggle to meet their biological needs. There are some campaigns that have demanded women's right to access sanitary products. This basic right must be defended in all circumstances, yet women in many parts of the world are deprived of it. The poster calls for action against this often overlooked violation of women's rights. The murdered woman in the poster symbolizes several basic symbols: the killing of women is a crime and a gross violation of human life and the natural chain of human formation. In addition, the deprivation of women's rights is depicted as an act of murder.

Stop killing women

According to UN Women, 2022 was the year in which the most women were intentionally murdered to date: nearly 89,000. Of these ‘Around 48,800 women and girls worldwide were killed by their intimate partners or other family members (including fathers, mothers, uncles and brothers). This means that, on average, more than 133 women or girls are killed every day by someone in their own family.’
If it’s not bad enough that femicide is increasing, the real statistic is probably much higher: ‘for roughly four in ten intentional murders of women and girls, there is not enough information to identify them as gender-related killings because of national variation in criminal justice recording and investigation practices’.
This must change. So this year, we want to ask your help in drawing attention to all forms of violence against women: for the world to stop killing women.
