"Fading Identity" poignantly captures the erasure of a woman’s identity through the haunting image of a face slowly dissolving into the background. The most striking element is the red handprint that merges with her features, symbolizing both a cry for help and the violent forces that seek to erase her existence. The handprint, bold and unmistakable, contrasts sharply with the fading details of her face, representing the stark reality of women whose voices and identities are silenced by violence.
The artistic use of red, splattered across the image like bloodstains, signifies the brutality and the loss of life that so often accompanies gender-based violence. The soft, almost ghostly lines of her fading face juxtapose the harshness of the handprint, illustrating the tension between existence and erasure, life and death.
This poster serves as a powerful reminder of the countless women whose identities are being erased through violence and oppression. "Fading Identity" urges the viewer to recognize that behind every statistic, there is a face, a life, and a story that must not be forgotten. It calls for a collective acknowledgment and action to prevent the erasure of women’s identities, to preserve their stories, and to combat the forces that threaten their existence.

Stop killing women
According to UN Women, 2022 was the year in which the most women were intentionally murdered to date: nearly 89,000. Of these ‘Around 48,800 women and girls worldwide were killed by their intimate partners or other family members (including fathers, mothers, uncles and brothers). This means that, on average, more than 133 women or girls are killed every day by someone in their own family.’
If it’s not bad enough that femicide is increasing, the real statistic is probably much higher: ‘for roughly four in ten intentional murders of women and girls, there is not enough information to identify them as gender-related killings because of national variation in criminal justice recording and investigation practices’.
This must change. So this year, we want to ask your help in drawing attention to all forms of violence against women: for the world to stop killing women.
