The idea revolves around the ban on abortions set last year in Poland, and the new law which was passed just this week which made all pregnancies mandatory to be written up in pregnancy register records. So taking into consideration, that Poland has placed a near-total ban on abortion and with this new law, women will face unprecedented surveillance - this topic covers the medical inequality based on gender in Poland. All of the elements and colour choices I have made in this poster are made with deliberance - first off, the colours of the tests by themselves are the accurate representation of Polish national flag. My choice of the mirror was also a meta choice, as the woman with lips sawn-in by the pregnancy test is a reflection of the person looking at the poster. The lips are sawn-in because due to the registry women are scared to look for medical help when pregnant. The registry makes even miscarriages frowned upon as potentially illegal abortions. Also, due to famous cases from the last year, sometimes being pregnant makes the prospective mothers illegible to receive medical help when there are problems which could only be solved by an abortion, as the medical doctors face far more serious consequences by performing the abortion than by letting the pregnant woman die. The choice of the male’s hand rather than the female’s is also deliberate. The laws are pushed by a male-led cabinet and the ruling party consist of 77% males. As female generally equate to less than 25% of the parliament, the changes made to laws are seen by general public as “males choices made about female bodies.”

Do The Right Thing

In a world that is becoming increasingly polarised, perhaps the one thing that unites us all is the conviction that we are all acting for the right reasons. And having formed an opinion about an issue, there is little room to have it changed by listening to an opposing view. Fake news has eroded trust in facts. So how can we move forward?
