My name is Mitra Jahed, and I'm a Graphic designer/Painter.
Nature, wildlife and community issues are often an inspiration for my artworks. A while ago, I read an article about some 30,000 African elephants are killed by poachers each year and with only 400,000 to 500,000 left in the wild, the species is classified as endangered. That made me extremely sad. It is up to us to save the wildlife, so as an artist, I thought I should speak up by my art and after I heard about the DO THE RIGHT THING competition, I decided to participate, thinking it might be a good platform to spread this message to more people so I ended up painting this watercolor and pen piece. The typography in the painting are Farsi words of the sentence: "No one in the world needs an elephant tusk but an elephant." Thomas Schmidt
I decided to paint flowers on the tusk in order to draw attention from the subject to the important object, and the unfinished line at the bottom of the picture is to induce the feeling of incompleteness, as an elephant feels without its tusk.
Thank you.

Do The Right Thing

In a world that is becoming increasingly polarised, perhaps the one thing that unites us all is the conviction that we are all acting for the right reasons. And having formed an opinion about an issue, there is little room to have it changed by listening to an opposing view. Fake news has eroded trust in facts. So how can we move forward?
