My concept is the idea of contradiction, along with the idea of how freedom and peace are easy to obtain through a variety of symbolic features. Finding a symbolic object such as the dove that represents peace and placing it in a compromising position, allowed contradiction and annoyance to seep through. Doves, along with the colour white are internationally known symbols for peace or surrender, keeping most of the colour palette white or monochrome allowed me to keep this small symbolism within the design. Placing the dove within the skulls mouth advocates for the quote I included, ‘peace arrives when the dove flies’, indicating that if there is still war, physical, verbal, polictical or so on in which results in catastrophe amongst the human race, there will be no peace until death. Keeping the word ‘dove’ in a calligraphy styled font, allows the viewer to understand the beauty that is shared between the font and the known aesthetic of a dove, however in comparison with the image, it highly contradicts the statement that is being shared. The word ‘flies’ is also underlined, showing the contradiction between the ability of flight whilst it lays between the mouth of a skull. Along with the addition of symbolism, the colours red and blue are included in the design on the left, the inclusion of these colours highly contrast one another as the emotion they both portray completley differ. Red influencing the emotion of danger, blood, anger, whilst blue indicates serenity, peace, and calmness.

Do The Right Thing

In a world that is becoming increasingly polarised, perhaps the one thing that unites us all is the conviction that we are all acting for the right reasons. And having formed an opinion about an issue, there is little room to have it changed by listening to an opposing view. Fake news has eroded trust in facts. So how can we move forward?
