The hand in this piece represents us, the humans, doing good. Whereas the flower represents everything else in the world that needs protecting, like the environment, animals, children, etc. The hand is protecting the flower, with it's gentle hands and shielding it, as a metaphor that we should always protect and handle things with care, especially the weak and those unable to take care or speak for themselves.
