Homelessness is a reality that occurs all over the world, a living existence that is transversal to cultures, countries, politics and economies. Statistics and studies about homelessness show that it is still a reality that is hard to pin point and measure in a global scale. Many countries (and their governments) see homelessness from a specific cultural and political perspective - they usually have a collective (not global) interpretation of what is it and how their circumstances are as part of a society. Those considerations have different approaches of what is a homeless person – Is it an individual that lives in the street? Is that someone that stays in a semi-permanent space? Someone that lost his or her home in a natural disaster? Or someone that lives in a house that doesn´t offer proper conditions? Who is this person and what exactly are his living conditions? - The answers to these questions usually contain solutions for a particular definition of homelessness, somehow overlooking the other interpretations, more hidden or sometimes even invisible to society. The numbers are still vague, but the United Nations estimated that, in 2005, there were 100 million homeless people worldwide. However, there was another 100 million ‘hidden homeless’ invisible to their criteria for homelessness, a problematic evidence that puts its definition in perspective and questions its capacity to reflect the dimension of the issue. Perhaps, global research should start looking closer into each phenomena of homelessness. Perhaps, this is a much deeper problem that requires a deeper solution; a permanent alternative that can provide more than a space, a wholesome place where security, protection and solemnity are an important part of constructing a real home.

‘Home’ means something different to all of us. The place where we grew up, the place where we live at the moment, the place we come to relax or entertain our friends. But for far too many people home remains a distant dream, as they try to eke out an existence in sub-standard accommodation or sleep rough on the streets.
