Based around the Sir Edward Coke note in his 1628 legal treatise The Institutes of the Laws of England: “A man’s house is his castle and fortress, et domus sua cuique tutissimum refugium.” That is; “A man’s house is his castle and fortress, and each man’s home is his safest refuge.” Everyone deserves a home or refuge of their own, but for some the only refuge or shelter is a cardboard box. How can you have safe refuge living and sleeping on the streets in someone else's rubbish?

Poster for tomorrow's 5th annual call for entries, campaigning for the universal right to housing.
‘Home’ means something different to all of us. The place where we grew up, the place where we live at the moment, the place we come to relax or entertain our friends. But for far too many people home remains a distant dream, as they try to eke out an existence in sub-standard accommodation or sleep rough on the streets.
