The inability to write and read struck me as the ability to forget, not by an individual, but by a group or society. As people unlearn, forget, or never learn basic skills, they almost erase themselves. I thought the image of two erasers on a pencil can make someone ineffectual in their lives.

We believe that education gives people across the whole world the chance to break the cycle of poverty: to live in a more equal world without discrimination, where everybody has the same chance to learn the same skills and enjoy the same success.
